Chapter The Present Perfect Tense

In order to form The Present Perfect Simple, we use the auxiliary « have » followed by a verb in the past participle.
I have seen your mother.
He has just finished his work.

The Present Perfect Simple can describe a past action having an effect on the present.
Damn! I have lost my keys. The loss of the keys has an effect on the present (I can't open the door).
What a mess! What's happened? We notice in the present the trace of a past action.

The Present Perfect Simple is used to indicate that an action is accomplished.
I have done my homework. (J'ai terminé mes devoirs).
Contrary to the Preterite usage, there is no indication of the moment when I finished my homework.

The Present Perfect Simple is used to indicate that an action was accomplished in a period which is still current.
I have seen the doctor three times this year.
The action is accomplished but the year has not finished yet, so there are still chances to return and see the doctor.

The Present Perfect Simple is used to indicate that the action is not accomplished. We generally indicate how much time the action takes or when the action started.
He has been gone for 2 weeks (Il est parti depuis deux semaines).
He has been there since last week (Il est ici depuis le week end dernier).

The Present Perfect Simple can describe an action that has just finished.
I have seen Milly. The usage of Present Perfect Simple implies that I have just seen her.
We generally add” just” to indicate that the action has just happened.
I have just missed my train.
